Justjoey is a musician from the Bay Area, CA who grows luscious, layered blends of Hip Hop, Soul & Jazz as a solo artist and in collaboration. Since starting in 2008 with a keyboard, a microphone, and a laptop, Joey has managed to turn soulful bedroom bops into dazzling recordings and a powerful live performance that's now been heard and witnessed by intimate gatherings and large audiences across the United States.
Songs about creating alternatives, struggling to exist, and finding a place are all backdrops for mystifying perseverance. Lyrics take the lead in almost every track, with intricate raps and soulful harmonies that land somewhere between David Bowie and Kendrick Lamar. While the styles and range are always expanding and keep the listener guessing, each project is carefully tied together under a common theme or umbrella of ideas that turn listening into a full experience.
Joey has performed under various names, perhaps most notably as Lucid Optics while touring across the US with underground hip hop stars. He's also a part of Lucid Logic alongside of Colombus, OH based mc and producer ILLOGIC, half of the duo Modern Language, and has worked with many other artists to release singles and EPs over the years. He's written songs and shared the stage with local, national and worldwide artists such as Airospace, Open Mike Eagle, Psalm One, Billy Woods, PremRock, ILLOGIC, Ceschi, r.a.p. ferreira (milo), Rob Sonic, Louis Logic, Museum & countless other incredible artists.
