  • Section 1: Project Details

    Part 1: What's provided

  • State of the art quality

I use almost a completely digital setup and have built up a library of high-quality tools and plug-ins that sound great on both digital and analog recordings.

    Performance

If you are looking for additional riffs, leads, vocal lines or harmonies, it's possible for myself or a session player to fill in. Whether you'd like guitar, bass, vibraphone, saxaphone, harp, or any other instrument, we can find the right match and complete this using either digital software or with a real instrument. If we are bringing in an outside musician, the price will include the cost of recording and time for the session player.

    Editing

This part of the process involves removing breaths, coughs, splicing multiple stems/tracks together, stretching audio tracks, cutting and looping pieces of a track or instrumental that you have the rights to, syncing vocals or instruments that are not on time & more. Each instrument (drums, guitar, bass, etc.) and vocal track that needs to be edited is considered in the price.

    Mixing

Mixing is what allows every instrument and voice in a song to harmonize rather than compete for space. This includes volume control/leveling, panning, EQ, compression, de-essing (reducing sibalance), delay, reverb, distortion, saturation & more depending on what the project calls for. In some cases, I will experiment with an effect and send you multiple versions of a mix - this will not affect the agreed upon price of the project or count as a revision. (Please note that I only produce mixes in stereo)

    Mastering

Mastering is where we add extra color to a mix and prepare it to be heard through different speakers and formats - on the radio, TV, streaming services, car stereos, and any physical format. This includes final EQ, compression, and saturation where necessary to make each range of frequencies (from low end bass & kick sounds to crispy snares and hi-hats) stand out and really glue everything together. We also use a limiter to boost the track volume to a professional level without losing any of the dynamic range / quality, and make sure that every track in your project has a consistent volume.

    Revisions

For each song and service, I provide up to 3 revisions. I encourage you to send notes and be thorough in any requests for revisions so we can make them as productive as possible. This means if you are hiring me to mix and master a song, you are provided up to 3 revisions on the mix and an additional 3 revisions on the master. If you are hiring me for a full project you will get 3 revisions for each service on each track. In many cases no revisions are needed. If you do want additional revisions after the limit is reached, each additional revision will cost $20.

    File Storage/Backup

I will have your files stored and backed up on an external hard drive for up to 1 year. If at any point within that year you need additional filetypes I will export them for you free of charge.

  • Part 2: What's not provided

  • Fixing an unfixable recording or mix

I only want to work with people when I'm 100% confident that my part will result in a powerful transformation for your project. If I decline working with you based on the quality of the recording or mix you will not be charged anything, and I can give suggestions on how to make a workable recording and how to tweak the mix in order to create something I can confidently work with.

More than 3 revisions per service on each track for free

I will always deliver a professional outcome based on a reference track of your choice, so in many cases no revision will be necessary. If there's still something that you'd like to be tweaked or changed when a song is finished, I'll happily revise each song up to 3 times per service (if you hired me for mixing & mastering, this means 3 mix revisions plus 3 master revisions). Each additional revision will cost an additional $20.

    Promotion

It's likely that I will share your project when it's released but I am not entitled to nor responsible for promoting your project on social media or anywhere else. Please consider that in many cases good, even great music is only the first step in getting heard or finding an audience. If I do have ideas to help I'll gladly share them, but you should come up with a long-term plan for promoting your project and how to reach people with it.

  • Part 3: Workflow

    • To begin, I will need all of the raw stems of your song/project sent labeled with track number, song title, and a description of the stem (i.e. 01 Money_mainvocals / 02 Second Thoughts_rythmkeys). This means exporting each instrument/vocal track/instrumental individually without any effects applied for the best result possible. Sending stems with effects on them may negatively impact the quality of the final version, but in some cases it can work well. Ultimately it's up to you.
    • I typically use WeTransfer to receive and send all the files since it's free and available for all parties involved, but this is subject to change and I am open to different options.

    • I currently use Logic Pro X for all services related to audio creation & engineering. You may send me a Logic X Project file instead of exporting all of your stems, but I am not accepting files in any other format / from any other program at this time.

Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance with any of these steps

  • Section 2: Timeline

This timeline is based on a 5-7 song project with performance, editing, mixing & mastering included, a frame of reference based on previous work. There are a number of things that will impact the length of time it takes to complete a project, such as the number services requested, the number of stems and songs, the number of revisions & additions, etc. We will come up with an accurate deadline during a call once we've figured out all of the services you need and all of the project details.

  • Week 1: Performance & Editing

The first week will be spent getting everything in place, splicing takes together, and getting a general feel of where to pan the instruments and leveling the volume of each element in the song.

    Week 2: Editing & Mixing

If a lot of editing is needed, it may carry into the mixing phase. This is where the real magic (nerdiness) begins and I start to group tracks and add effects like reverb, distortion, etc. The mixing phase will likely last about a week, and when finished will be sent to you for approval and feedback and be open to the first revision. The track will really begin to feel like a cohesive piece.

    Week 3: Mixing & Mastering

At this point the final tweaks will be applied to the mix and the mastering process will begin. The volume will be boosted significantly and your song(s) will reach a commercial quality with a beautifully dynamic range and balanced levels, and once it reaches that point will be sent to you for feedback and be open to the first revision.

  • Section 3: Payment Terms

Easy, flat-rate pricing. You will never be charged for anything we do not directly discuss. We will figure out exactly what you need on our first call and determine the project rate, or whenever you can provide me with the project details. There will be no additional fees once we figure out that number unless you choose to add something beyond the initial agreement.

    Credit requirements

I do ask to be credited for my work.

For physical releases: Either in the liner notes or back cover of the album

    2. I'll send an invoice for your remaining balance due within 30 days of acknowledging that you understand this agreement

    3. I'll send you an onboarding form, and the project will begin after I receive the completed form
